Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden has emphasized that Europe and Ukraine must be directly involved in shaping any peace agreement, warning that Russia cannot be rewarded for its aggression. His remarks came after a joint video conference of European and allied leaders to coordinate strategy on the ongoing war.

Frieden stressed that no decisions about Ukraine or Europe should be made without their full participation. He highlighted the importance of including major European nations with strong military capabilities and those bordering Russia, noting that their involvement is essential for long-term security. He described the talks as a precedent-setting moment, underscoring that Europe must act as an active partner alongside the United States.

While acknowledging unity among allies, Frieden cautioned that the path to peace will be long and complex. He said the goal is not only to end the current conflict but also to create a durable European security framework for the future. Discussions over security guarantees for Ukraine are ongoing, with the principle being that Ukraine cannot be left vulnerable to further Russian aggression.

Looking ahead, Frieden said that continued transatlantic cooperation was essential. He explained that more meetings will follow to coordinate positions, as direct negotiations with Russia have yet to begin. He concluded by stressing that allies remain committed to ending the war and ensuring peace and stability across Europe.
