Cracks are showing in the Gaza ceasefire, with an Israeli strike on the Nuseirat camp and new, hardline demands from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Hamas condemned the strike as a “clear violation” of the Trump-brokered truce.
Amid the violence, Netanyahu declared that Israel will have sole discretion over which nations join an international peacekeeping force. “Israel will determine which forces are unacceptable to us,” he said, claiming US support.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, visiting Israel, backed this, saying the force must be “comfortable” for Israel and that Hamas must be excluded from power.
Netanyahu has already signaled this would mean blocking Turkey. The truce is also challenged by a slow exchange of remains, with Donald Trump warning Hamas he is “watching very closely” to ensure the return of more Israeli bodies.
