A US official has confirmed there are “no plans” for a presidential summit, just days after President Trump’s “two week” announcement.
Trump had posted on social media that he would meet Vladimir Putin in Budapest within two weeks, following a call with the Russian leader.
On Tuesday, however, a US official speaking anonymously said there are “no plans” for a meeting in the “immediate future.”
The Kremlin’s spokesperson echoed this, stating there is “no precise timeframe” for a summit.
The US official did confirm a “productive” call took place on Monday between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to discuss the potential summit, but added that a follow-up meeting was “not necessary.”
