In a commanding all-round display, England secured a record 125-run win against India in the second T20I, seizing a 2-0 advantage in the five-game series. This victory puts England one step away from clinching the series, as India now faces a critical must-win situation in the remaining matches.

England’s bowlers, led by standout performances from Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue, dismantled India’s batting lineup. Chasing a target of 202, India’s innings crumbled to 76 all out in less than 12 overs, marking their most substantial defeat by runs in T20 internationals. Despite a promising start by openers Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma, who opted for an aggressive batting strategy, England’s pace attack quickly turned the tables. Tongue excelled with four wickets, while Archer delivered pivotal early dismissals, causing the Indian batting collapse. Sooryavanshi and Ishan Kishan were the top scorers for India, each managing only 13 runs, reflecting the team’s overall batting struggles.

Phil Salt played a crucial role in England’s innings, overcoming a slow start to score an impressive 70 off 44 balls. His anchoring performance was complemented by Sam Curran’s unbeaten 41 from 24 deliveries, pushing England’s total past the 200-run threshold after a cautious beginning. This solid batting display laid the foundation for England’s dominant defense with the ball.

Following the defeat, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer acknowledged the team’s underperformance, while head coach Gautam Gambhir defended the aggressive batting approach, highlighting its past successes and reaffirming its continued use despite the setback.
