Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government has set a new record for longevity in the Italian Republic, having remained in power for 1,413 consecutive days. This milestone surpasses the previous record of 1,412 days set by Silvio Berlusconi’s administration from 2001 to 2005. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan extended his congratulations to Meloni, expressing optimism for continued cooperation and solidarity between Türkiye and Italy.
Meloni, who became Italy’s first female prime minister in October 2022, has developed a strong rapport with Erdoğan. Their relationship has been marked by regular discussions on both bilateral and regional matters, including trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration. The two leaders have worked closely on issues concerning Libya and Ukraine, demonstrating a commitment to regional stability and cooperation.
In April 2025, Meloni and Erdoğan co-chaired the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit in Rome. During this summit, the two countries signed several agreements aimed at strengthening their strategic and economic ties. This collaboration underscores the depth of their partnership, with both nations seeking to enhance mutual benefits across various sectors.
The relationship between Türkiye and Italy was further solidified during a meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara in July. During this encounter, Meloni and Erdoğan reaffirmed their plans to boost trade, encourage mutual investment, and enhance cooperation in defense and other strategic areas. These discussions highlight the ongoing commitment of both leaders to foster a robust and enduring partnership.
