Italy’s Defence Minister Guido Crosetto has confirmed that the nation will maintain its support for Ukraine, emphasizing the critical role this assistance plays in ensuring European security. His statements came after a meeting of defence ministers from the E5 group in Paris, where he reiterated Italy’s commitment to Ukraine as part of its obligations to international, European Union, and NATO agreements.
Crosetto highlighted that aiding Ukraine should be seen not just as support for another country, but as a strategic investment in the future and collective security of Europe. He assured that Italy would continue to provide assistance to Ukraine within its capabilities, as the ongoing conflict poses a substantial threat to Europe’s safety.
The Defence Minister’s remarks were made in the context of a political rift within Italy’s ruling coalition. This division arose after Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani opposed suggestions by Transport Minister Matteo Salvini to cease military aid to Kyiv. Despite these internal disagreements, Crosetto’s comments underline the government’s stance on maintaining support for Ukraine.
