Finnish President Alexander Stubb has embarked on a two-day state visit to Luxembourg, focusing on enhancing bilateral ties and addressing key European issues. The visit commenced on Tuesday with a ceremonial welcome, as Stubb and his wife were greeted with military honours outside the Grand Ducal Palace. This was followed by a meeting with Luxembourg’s Grand Ducal couple and a wreath-laying ceremony at the eternal flame, honoring those who have died in service.
Throughout the visit, President Stubb is set to engage with Luxembourg’s political leadership, including President of the Chamber of Deputies Claude Wiseler, Prime Minister Luc Frieden, and Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel. These discussions are anticipated to center on strengthening bilateral relations and navigating current European affairs, reflecting the commitment of both nations to collaborate on shared concerns within the continent.
The itinerary also underscores cooperation within European institutions, with planned visits to the European Investment Bank and the European Court of Justice. These visits highlight the collaborative efforts of Finland and Luxembourg in contributing to European financial and legal frameworks.
On the second day of the visit, President Stubb will turn his attention to academic and economic collaboration, with scheduled visits to the University of Luxembourg’s Belval campus and the SES headquarters in Betzdorf. These engagements are expected to further explore and enhance the academic and economic connections between the two countries.
